The story
A dragon does not become a mount. It agrees to carry someone, for a while, for reasons of its own.
The rider is almost never the senior party in the arrangement and everybody who has ever seen one in the air understands that immediately. What the dragon gets out of it varies — access, amusement, a share of something, an obligation being worked off — and the rider generally knows better than to discuss it. The relationship ends when the dragon decides it has.
Riders who talk about owning one are usually new, and usually not riding for long.
The biggest centrepiece most collections will own — plan the light before the colour, keep the wing membranes translucent, and make the harness look borrowed rather than fitted.
